About this riff
The guitar part is built on a driving, repetitive eighth-note figure with a tight, punchy attack, so it's mostly about right-hand stamina and staying locked to the 140 BPM pulse rather than fretboard gymnastics. The fretting is simple and stays in familiar shapes, which makes it a good exercise in tight palm-muted picking and clean chord changes. Standard tuning, so you can start playing along straight away.
Did you know?
According to Songfacts, Brian Molko wanted to call the song "Heavy Metal Petting Zoo" but was overruled. When Cruel Intentions wanted to use it, Molko told the Herald Sun in 1999 that he knew the film's source material, Dangerous Liaisons, because the band had watched it on the tour bus. Wikipedia notes that the song was recorded in early 1998 at Real World Studios with producer Steve Osborne.
